In what security sources say is part of a series of preventive measures against terrorist groups in the West Bank, Israel Defense Forces special operations soldiers and agents from the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) carried out a series of arrests in and around Nablus in Samaria on Tuesday morning, arresting several suspects and seizing a large amount of weapons and cash.
According to the IDF, soldiers from special units, including Duvdevan and Egoz, supported by the police, the Shin Bet and Border Police, arrested six suspects believed to be involved in terrorism, and seized seven guns, grenades and a large amount of ammunition.
In the village of Tzurif outside Nablus, the forces raided a house where they uncovered NIS 65,000 in cash, which they say was earmarked for Hamas to support armed operations against Israel.
Tuesday morning’s raid came the day after troops shot and killed three fighters in the West Bank village of Kalandiya who fired at personnel carrying out the demolition of the home of a terrorist, according to the IDF spokesman.
No soldiers were injured in the raid, during which locals threw firebombs and rocks at soldiers, and set off explosive devices.
Also on Tuesday, residents in the south were on edge after the Iron Dome missile system fired an interceptor missile at what it thought was an incoming rocket.
Apparently there was no rocket however, although residents of the south did hear an explosion, which is believed to have been the interceptor.
The IDF confirmed that the rocket sirens that sounded in the Shaar Hanegev council were a false alarm, but added that it is too early to say what triggered the mistake.
No injuries or damages have been reported, and Southern District police said they received no calls about rocket “landings” in the district after the sirens were sounded earlier in the day.
