Three prisoners who were captured by the IDF in its Gaza ground operation have been released by Israel, according to a report by semi-official Palestinian news agency Ma'an. The news agency quoted a statement by the Palestinian Ministry of Prisoner Affairs.
According to the report, over 250 Palestinian prisoners captured in Gaza are being held in Ashkelon Prison.
In July, the IDF took over 150 Hamas terrorists prisoner after they surrendered in last night's offensive on the neighborhoods of Khan Yunis and Rafiyah in the Gaza Strip.
The prisoners were transferred to the Shin Bet for questioning regarding the movements and operations of Hamas in Gaza.
According to the Ma'an report, Palestinian officials believe that Israel has not been forthcoming with the identifications or number of prisoners from the Gaza operation currently being held in Israeli prisons.
An IDF spokeswoman told Ma'an that 159 Palestinians had been detained during the assault, who were "actively engaged in terrorist attacks," presumably meaning that they were engaging in fighting against Israeli soldiers.
