Set against the backdrop of European art auctions, The Best Offer, the new film by Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore, boasts a magnetic performance by Geoffrey Rush as an eccentric art auctioneer whose life is changed when a potential client is revealed to be even more isolated than he is. 3. Enjoy the competition
Six choreographers will compete for cash prizes and audience recognition in the 17th edition of Shades of Dance at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv. The festival will kick off with an evening dedicated to The Rite of Spring. Hillel Kogan will perform his own take on the ballet, followed by an improvisation session danced by 11 performers.

Dancer-choreographer Ido Tadmor premieres a new work, Rust, an Israeli-Polish co-production with Polish dancer Elwira Piorun, as part of the Hot Dance Festival.

6. Get ready
The Haifa Museum of Art celebrates 100 years of the Ready-Made art movement with a special tribute group exhibition inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s first readymade piece presented in 1913 in Paris. Some 36 leading Israeli contemporary artists are participating in the exhibition.

7. Be realistic
A new hyper-realism art exhibition, “Reality,” is on display in Haifa. 8. Cycle a toy
A new exhibition is opening at the Old Jaffa Museum of Antiquities. “Toy Cycle: Toys in surprising combinations,” brings an international social-recycling enterprise called Ocean Soles from Africa, with toys made from flip-flops found in the ocean, alongside works by Israeli artists, recycling workshops and new ideas for toys by design students September 2 to December 31 at 10 Mifratz Shlomo promenade, Jaffa. www.toycycle.co.il. 9. Save the Date After dazzling audiences around the globe, The Aluminum Show returns to Israel for four performances. The unique and energetic experience for the whole family, which combines dance, acrobatics and a lot of humor, debuted at the Israel Festival in 2003 and soon gained worldwide recognition. The show gives new meaning to recovered industrial materials as the cast performs with them and interacts with the audience.
