At a home for retired musicians, the annual concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday is disrupted by the arrival of Jean, an eternal diva and former wife of one of the residents. Acclaimed choreographer Mourad Merzouki’s AGWA is a high-energy display of complex hip hop, capoeira, samba and acrobatics. The work was inspired by an encounter between Merzouki and Kafig, a group of 11 young Brazilian dancers from Companhia Urbana de Dança, which maintains a focus on the movements’ roots and geographical origins.
