"I believe the army is an integral part of life in the state of Israel," singer Shai Gabso asserted on Thursday in response to an article in Ma'ariv that quoted him as calling on people not to join the IDF. "I never spoke out against the IDF draft; to the contrary, I served a full stint in the IDF." Gabso said his words had been taken out of context. "I've never been ashamed to express my opinions, but those are not my opinions," said Gabso, who served in the artillery corps and is the son of a career soldier. "I have given and will continue to give innumerable concerts for soldiers on their bases and at their outposts," he promised.
