That's Lifestyle: The best job in the world?

Lifestyle Editor wraps up this week’s stories: Jew spotting in Morocco, Jaffa's jewels, meat-free Morrissey.

People are often jealous of my position as the Lifestyle Editor at JPost.com; they think that I have the best job in the world, dealing with the finer things in life such as food and wine, travel and arts and culture. Though it's not quite that glamorous on a day-to-day basis, the job certainly comes with its perks. To explain what the world of Lifestyle at JPost is all about, what follows is the first of a weekly wrap-up of what's been happening during the past week.

One article that got people talking this week was Tanya Powell-Jones's exploration of Morocco's rich Jewish history.

Tanya is one of our newest columnists and her Wandering Jew travel series is mandatory reading for anyone who loves travel and all things Jewish. I've had a sneak peak at the next couple of columns which explore Prague and Amsterdam and you should all be excited to read the finished products.

Generally it's the Brits who love to talk about the weather but for the past couple of weeks all anyone’s been talking about here in Israel is the crazy heat. Always ready with the right advice at the right time, one of our veteran columnists Kathryn Rubin brought us the Top 5 foods that help protect against sun damage.

While in Tel Aviv it's almost unbearable to be outside in the evening, in Jerusalem it's a different story and that's where iTRAVELJERUSALEM came in with the Top 5 summer festivals in the capital.

Tel Aviv is known for its great restaurants, and the team at Taste TLV has a knack of finding the hidden gems. This week Jaffa was on the menu. As always, the article stirred up discussion on the talkback forums about the lack of kosher restaurants featured.

Here in the Lifestyle department we're not only about traveling the world, soaking up some rays and frequenting festivals, we also care about your health. This week, alternative health expert Natalie Marx focused on natural remedies to treat eczema. While her alternative methods sometimes cause controversy, one avid reader of the weekly column thanked Natalie for "changing [her] life."

Last weekend I explored my Mancunian roots at the Morrissey concert at the Tel Aviv Exhibition Grounds. While live tweeting from the show, something I always try to do at cool events, I received a number of great interactions from die-hard Morrissey fans as well as JPost readers. My favorite comment came from none other than The Jerusalem Post's very own Knesset reporter Lahav Harkov, who pointed out that the legendary vegetarian rocker was more considerate to his Israeli fans than he even realized.

@JPost_Lifestyle Perfect for the Nine Days!

— Lahav Harkov (@LahavHarkov) July 21, 2012

She was of course referring to the nine days when many Jews don't eat meat leading up to Tisha Be'Av, a fast day that even we here at Lifestyle couldn’t ignore. Also this week, Wayne Stiles reminded us that Tisha Be'Av is upon us and took us on a journey to the Burnt House, a first-century house in Jerusalem's Old City that the Romans burned along with the Second Temple.

After we've finished mourning the destruction of the Temple, next week is Tu Be'Av so it's time to get in the mood for love. While many would like to think that they're in the perfect relationship, some of us are looking for some extra help in the love department. Look out for our special relationship advice features and details on great places to wine and dine a loved one.
