1. FILM
SKYFALL
The 23rd spy film in the James Bond series, Skyfall, which has already
received good reviews, premieres this week around the country. In this film, as
MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter
how personal the cost. Directed by Sam Mendes, with Daniel Craig as Bond, Javier
Bardem as the villain and Helen McCrory as the Bond girl.
2. EXHIBITION
CROSS THE BORDERS
The prestigious traveling art exhibit Salon d’Automne, which
gave Picasso and Louis Vuitton a gentle push into the world of professional art,
makes its Israeli debut in Jaffa this week. There will be some 1,000 pieces and
400 artists, with media such painting, sculpture, photography, contemporary art,
architecture, music, film and dance.

CUT PAPER
The Song of Songs is the focus
of a group exhibition of papercutting artists that opens today at Beit Shmuel in
Jerusalem. Eight artists present their work in the art form that has become
popular again in recent years, with their inspiration coming from biblical
sources.

4. MUSIC
LOSE YOURSELF IN FANTASY
The
Choral Fantasy musical event starts tonight in Jerusalem. Some 300 singers and
14 musical ensembles, both vocal and instrumental, participate in the event,
which takes place at the YMCA and other venues. Among the participants are the
Tel Aviv Soloists and the Collegium Singers, Barrocade, the Jerusalem Baroque
Orchestra, the Israeli Chamber Choir, the New Vocal Ensemble, Megiddo and the
Music Academy Choirs. On Saturday, the program includes several walking tours
led by experienced local guides, with the YMCA as the starting point.

The winner of this
year’s Stage Award for Children and Youth, Emil and the Detectives returns to
the Mediatech Theater in Holon on Saturday. The story of Erich Kastner’s hero
and his friends is as relevant for today’s children as it was when the book was

7. FUNDRAISING
HELP THE KIDS
A film fund-raiser of the Talia
Trust, which helps children with learning difficulties, takes place on Tuesday
for its initiative at the Kiryat Haim Learning Center in Haifa. The trust was
set up by Marilyn and Maurice Hyman in memory of their daughter Talia, who was
killed in a car accident. The film The Kid with a Bike, winner at last year’s
Cannes Film Festival, will be screened.

RESEARCH THE LAND
In his work Earth Study,
Arkadi Zaides explores the individual voices of five performers from diverse
backgrounds, which manifest their personal take on the subject of earth. As part
of the show, the five performers map their own body, observing it as if it were
an individual, private landscape shaped by its surroundings.

UPCOMING OPERA TAKE A ‘PIQUE’
The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra premieres
Tchaikovsky’s opera Pique Dame (Queen of Spades), with guest conductor Vladimir
Jurowsky, a host of guest solo singers, the Gary Bertini Chamber Choir and the
Ankor children’s choir. The concert series will take place in Jerusalem and Tel
Aviv during November starting next Thursday at 7:30 at Smolarsh Hall in Tel Aviv
University. The Jerusalem concert will take place at Binyenei Ha’uma on November
13 at 7:30.
