1. PROMETHEUS

A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. A new Ridley Scott science-fiction film, starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.

2. THE WAY TO SHALEM

The Jerusalem Culture Season kicks off today with a weeklong pilgrimage to Jerusalem, a project created and organized by artist Guy Briller.

A group of artists, poets and cultural activists will walk along Route 1 from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, stopping on the way to hold discussions and workshops and meet other artists.

The journey will be broadcast live on the website www.goingupjerusalem.tv.

3. MOZART & SALIERI

Mozart and Salieri, their rivalry and the mystery of Mozart’s death are the focus of the Netanya Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra’s concert program conducted by Yaron Gottfried. With two choirs – Moran (pictured) and Collegium Tel Aviv – soprano Sharon Rostorff-Zamir, contralto Avital Dery, tenor Itay Drory and bass Aleksey Kanonnikov.

Tonight in Netanya. On June 23 at Kibbutz Givat Brenner. On June 24 in Ashkelon. On June 26 at Ein Hahoresh. On June 30 in Modi’in.

4. BOTANICAL ROCK

Welcome Shabbat with an intimate rock concert at the Botanical Gardens at the Hebrew University Givat Ram campus in Jerusalem. This week’s performance will be by veteran singer/songwriter Matti Caspi, who will combine his songs with his wellknown wit.

Concert starts at 4:30 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Theater

5. IN THE LAND OF GILEAD

A biographical journey following Laurence Oliphant’s fascinating life, through live and recorded performances, opens at the Israeli Center for Digital Art in Holon. Oliphant’s book Land of Gilead (1880) about settling Jews in Palestine influenced Theodor Herzl and became an important text of the Zionist movement. The work, which premieres June 22 and 23, is 12 hours long and will be performed in sequences of 30 minutes.

Entrance is free, but registration is required.

6. LOOKING FOR THE BLUE TUNE

A new children’s play, Blue Melody with Curls, a part of the Play by the Book series, is the story of a boy who cannot sleep and sets out to find his beloved tune. A musical show for kids 4-9, based on a book by Eldad Cohen.

7. IF THE LEBOWSKI FEST IS UP YOUR ALLEY...

Following the success of last year’s first Israeli Lebowski Fest, a tribute to the iconic Coen Brothers film The Big Lebowski, Lebowski Fest II, will take place on June 28 at the newly renovated Jerusalem Bowling at the Lev Talpiot Mall. Events include a screening of the film starring Jeff Bridges as the Dude, a bowling tournament, a live band performing the hits of Creedence Clearwater Revival, a costume contest and a bar serving beer and White Russians.

NIS 60 for non-bowlers and NIS 90 includethe bowling tournament. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the events begin at 9 p.m.

Opera

8. RIGOLETTO THE COURT JESTER

The last installment in this year’s very successful opera season is Verdi’s Rigoletto, which will premiere on June 30. The opera is directed by renowned David Pountney, with Daniele Callegari and Daniel Cohen alternating as conductors, and an impressive lineup of international and local soloists.

9. WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE PARIS

Fall in love in Paris, the City of Light, in the next concert of the Golden Saturday series of the Israeli Opera. With arias from La Traviata, La Boheme and other beloved operas.

10. GETTING HOTTER

This year’s Hot Dance Festival at the Suzanne Dellal Center in Tel Aviv starts on July 2 and will continue until August 30, with 50 shows, of which eight are world premieres.

The rich lineup includes works by veteran Israeli choreographers, as well as first-comers and international dance companies. The program includes genres that range from African and Indian dance to flamenco, Oriental, neo-classic and modern dance.
