STREETS AHEAD The country’s first International 3D Pavement Drawing Festival takes place this weekend on Bialik Street in Ramat Hasharon. Dozens of artists from Israel and abroad create artwork based on 3D techniques on the sidewalks. There will also be topnotch musical entertainment provided by Rita, the Umma Gumma rock band and groups from the local Rimon School.

Eight Israeli artists, with works from the 1970s to the present, deal with the subject of body and divinity, revealing the complex critical relations between Jewish and Christian thought. The featured works deal with the tension between the immateriality of God in Judaism and His concrete material existence in Christianity, while addressing a range of aesthetic and theoretical concerns pertaining to visual representation and its place in Israeli culture.
MUSIC5. ELECTRIFYING The Electro-Swing trio Dirty Honkers debuts in Israel this week, bringing its cheeky hot music (and attitude) to various venues around the country. The group, consisting of Israeli Gad Baruch Hiniks, Canadian singer-saxophonist Andrea Roberts and French singer-saxophonist Florent Manate, is one of the hot names on the Berlin music scene.

FORBIDDEN ART The Israeli Museum of Caricature and Comics, Holon, presents “Visual Words – Comics from China” as part of the cultural exchange between Basel’s Caricature Museum and the Holon museum.
The show takes viewers on a journey from the origins of ancient Chinese literature, through the times of the revolution and until today, focusing on 20thcentury Chinese comics. Aside from the show at the Basel museum, this is the first time these works are shown in the Western world.

UPCOMING 10. OPERA IN THE PARK The popular summer opera event returns next Thursday as the Israeli Opera brings Verdi’s Rigoletto to the park for a free openair performance.
The production, which was hailed by the audience at the Opera House in the past few week, will be performed before an audience of more than 60,000 people, so plan to arrive early.
