The eighth annual Hamshushalayim, Jerusalem’s culture and tourism winter festival, is taking place this weekend and will continue for four fun-packed weekends.
Every weekend in December will feature hundreds of cultural events, concerts, exhibitions, dance and theatrical shows that will extend into the late hours of the night. Other attractions, special tours and culinary delights will be offered throughout the city. Organizers say that Hamshushalayim draws tens of thousands of visitors every year.
The central theme of Hamshushalayim 2012 is humor, and the festival features stand-up shows, satire, storytelling and jokesters, comedies, cabaret, humorous literature and poetry, humor in art, pantomime, laugh yoga and funny theatrical tours for the whole family.
Among the participants are Gavri and Uri Banai in ‘On Humor’ at the Jerusalem Theater; Dan Almagor explores the origins of Jerusalem humor in a series of seminars at the YMCA; Yossi Alfy brings funny stories; and caricaturist Michel Kichka invites sketched locals to the Tower of David.
There will also be a stand-up marathon at The Incubator Theater and comedy performances at the Khan Theater, movie laughter mayhem at the Cinematheque, humor in literature and poetry at Agnon House, children’s shows at the Train Theater and much more.
