1. LOOK FOR THE ‘SILVER LININGS’

Silver Linings Playbook is a romantic comedy-drama adapted from a novel by Matthew Quick about Pat Solitano, a former teacher who, after a stint in a mental institution, moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his exwife.



Things get more challenging when he meets a mysterious girl with problems of her own. Starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro. At cinemas around the country.

2. EXPLORE THE ORIGIN OF THE BLUES

KM Williams, one of the few bluesmen who manage to marry the raw approach from the Deep South with the electrically enhanced approach that hails from Chicago, offers local blues devotees an opportunity to groove to his captivating vocal and instrumental offerings this week.

3. BE A FRANCKOPHILE

Jewish jazz pianist Franck Amsallem gives a much-awaited performance in Jerusalem, under the auspices of the Romain Gary French Institute.

Amsallem’s repertoire includes many original pieces written for various ensembles both classical and jazz.

4. REMEMBER NEW ORLEANS

The next installment of the Hot Jazz series is a tribute to Sidney Bechet and the New Orleans music, with American Evan Christopher on clarinet, local percussionist Shay Zelman and the Swing de Gitanes trio.

5. EMBRACE THE ‘SEASONS’

Renowned American violinist cum conductor Robert McDuffie leads the Israel Chamber Orchestra in an interesting program that he performs worldwide – Vivaldi’s classic Four Seasons, followed by Philip Glass’s American Four Seasons. Tonight at Recanati Hall of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

6. FEEL THE HEAT

Dafy Altabeb created the dance piece Heat Sensitive for the Naples Opera House director who visited Israel in 2011 and was excited by her previous work. The hour long Heat Sensitive, created together with Moshe Nini, is based on Italian operas and was first staged at a Naples dance festival.

7. CELEBRATE VERDI’S BIRTHDAY

Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Luisa Miller (1849) is making its local debut on the Israeli Opera stage, the first of three Verdi productions to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Directed by the Berlin Opera’s Gerlinde Pelkowski, who is also making her Israeli debut. The conductor is Daniel Oren.

KIDS

8. TURN AROUND

A little boy loved wearing his pants back to front. Everybody said it was unacceptable, but he managed to turn them around and save the world. The Bama group presents a lovely danceplay for children four and up.

JAZZ

9. IMPROVISE

Jewish Russian pianist Daniel Kramer combines classical music with jazz improvisation in his concerts. He will join forces with jazz saxophonist Robert Anchipolovsky, bassist Simon Starr and drummer Gasper Bertoncelj for the Jazz Ring concert.
