1. RELIVE A CLASSIC

Anna Karenina, the British film directed by Joe Wright and adapted by Tom Stoppard from Leo Tolstoy’s 1877 novel, tells the tragic story of married aristocrat and socialite Anna Karenina and her affair with the affluent Count Vronsky. Keira Knightley stars as Karenina, with Jude Law and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Alexei Karenin and Vronsky.

3. CATCH A FAMILY DRAMA

The Haifa English Theatre presents Paul Zindel’s And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little. The award-winning drama intersperses humor with pathos in a story that revolves around three sisters and how they deal with the death of their mother.

4. SAVOR SOME TURKISH DELIGHTS

5. GO CLASSICAL BUT CASUAL

Venezuelan conductor and violinist Gustavo Dudamel is a guest in one of a series of January concerts performed by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

6. ENJOY A CENTURY OF GREEK MUSIC

Singer-musician Natalie Orion and her ensemble open this year’s Culture and Community series with an evening dedicated to 100 years of Greek music, from the Rebetico until today. This will mark the series of the open music shows held by The First International Bank of Israel, which focuses on ethnic music this year.

Multimedia artist David Tartakover, winner of the Israel Prize for design, takes baggage to a whole new level in his latest multimedia exhibition, “I Packed Alone.”

8. DIVE IN

A new exhibition at the National Maritime Museum Haifa, “Song of the Sea,” brings a host of Israeli artwork dealing with marine life. Among the artists whose works are on display are Nahum Gutman (photo), Reuben Rubin, Naftali Bezem, Dganit Brest, Pamela Levy, Alex Kremer, Avraham Ofek and Larry Abramson.

9. COMBINE DANCE AND RELIGION

The Nehara Dance Company, consisting of four religious female dancers, embarks on a short tour, performing for a mixed audience. On the program are three works created by members of the group about the daily dilemmas of a religious woman’s life.
