In a situation right out of a sitcom, comedian Kevin Meaney almost didn’t make it to Israel to perform as part of the Koby Comedy Tour after he was charged with assault at JFK International Airport on Wednesday.
According to a report by Reuters, Meaney, 58, was walking through the airport when he hit a woman in the chest with his elbow. The woman reported the incident to Port Authority Police and Meaney was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault.
The charges were dropped and Meaney was released after prosecutors reviewed security tapes of the incident and concluded that the comedian had accidentally bumped into the woman, said a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney’s office via Reuters.
Meaney might have had some trouble on his journey from New York to Israel, but he is still scheduled to perform for eager Israelis as part of the tour.
“Due to a misunderstanding, Kevin was briefly detained at JFK airport and then released of all charges. He is currently en-route to Israel and looking forward to the tour,” said tour representative Dena Wimpfheimer. In the case of comedy, all’s well that ends well.
