Legendary band announce they will reunite 37 years after splitting up, plan to play at Israel Festival for evening of "nostalgia."

The former members of the Kaveret band announced on Sunday in Tel Aviv that they will reunite this spring, 40 years after they began as a band, and 37 years after they split up.

Although Kaveret’s musical life was short, it was revolutionary and affected not only Israeli music, but also its culture, in a country that was barely 25 years old at the time.

Danny Sanderson, acoustic guitar player and one of the band’s two lead vocalists, referred to the Kaveret reunion concerts slated for June 19 and 20 in Jerusalem, as part of the Israel Festival, as “an evening of Kaveret nostalgia.”

“We haven’t yet begun serious rehearsals,” rhythm guitar player Efraim Shamir said, at the press conference at the Herods Hotel.

“But our aim is to be Kaveret, just as we were then, to be precise and true to the original.”

Kaveret’s producer Yehuda Talit said he was excited about the reunion that will include its other lead singer and percussion artist Gidi Gov, keyboard player Yoni Rechter, electric guitarist Yitzhak “Churchill” Klepter, bass guitarist Alon Olearczyk, and drummer Meir “Poogy” Fenigstein, who attended Sunday’s press meeting via Web conference.

Although Gov and Sanderson are considered the lead singers, all members of Kaveret participate as vocalists.

In addition to a majority of golden oldies, the concerts will showcase a song each by individual band members, written sometime over the past 37 years.

Kaveret is also compiling a nostalgic boxed CD collection that will include previously unreleased material and rehearsal recordings.

“The Israel Festival is proud to close the 2013 festival with Kaveret. They are the melody of this country,” Yossi Tal-Gan, director of the Israel Festival, said.
