The Doors alumni Manzarek and Krieger to play in TA

Like U2 without Bono or The E Street Band minus Bruce Springsteen? Two 1960s legends will be creaking their way to Israel on July 7.

It may be like seeing U2 without Bono or The E Street Band minus charismatic frontman Bruce Springsteen, but two of the survivors of 1960s rock legends The Doors will be creaking their way to Tel Aviv for one show on July 7 at Hangar 11.
Original keyboardist Ray Manzarek – who was as responsible for the band’s iconic sound as much as late vocalist Jim Morrison – and guitarist Robby Krieger are the historic links to the original band.
They’ll be joined in the Morrison role by Mark Farner, the one-time guitarist/singer with 1970s hard rockers Grand Funk Railroad.
Manzarek and Krieger first reformed the band in 2002 as The Doors of the 21st Century, with Ian Astbury of The Cult filling in for Morrison and Stewart Copeland of The Police replacing original drummer John Densmore, who either suffered from tinnitus or wasn’t asked to join the reunion, according to whichever version you believe.
Lawsuits and multiple personnel changes followed, resulting in Manzarek and Krieger being prevented from using the name The Doors. After adopting Riders on the Storm, the Manzarek/Kreiger name was inaugurated in 2009.
Joining the duo will be Farner, along with Ty Dennis on drums and Phil Chen on bass.
