60,000 travel through Ben Gurion Airport ahead of Passover

More than 60,000 travelers were estimated to pass through Ben Gurion Airport on 400 flights by the end of the day Sunday – the peak travel day for the Passover holiday, according to the Israel Airports Authority (IAA).

All in all, the IAA said it expects to a 25 percent increase in passenger traffic this Passover holiday in comparison to last year, with more than 1.2 million travelers using the airport.

In order to accommodate the increased numbers of people, the IAA said more staff members would be working, but suggested that travelers arrive to the airport three hours before their departure times. The most popular destinations for Passover this year are Turkey, the United States, Russia, Italy and France, the IAA said. Meanwhile, facilities within the airport are operating under kosher standards and will be banning the sale of chametz, the authority added.
