Former IDF chief of staff Lt.-Gen. (Res) Gabi Ashkenazi was being questioned under suspicion in the Harpaz document forgery affair.

In addition to Ashkenazi, former IDF spokesman  Brig.- Gen. (res.) Avi Benayahu was also being questioned by police Sunday in connection with the affair.

Police are checking, among other things, suspicions that the former IDF officials did not alert authorities to the existence of the forged document that apparently sought to influence the decision to choose a successor to Ashkenazi.

Both men have previously been called in for questioning a number of times in the affair.
