The Cabinet on Sunday approved Israel's membership in the Switzerland-based European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that joining CERN was an achievement for Israel: "This achievement reflects the latent capabilities of Israeli scientists and constitutes recognition of their ability. Israel is joining an exclusive club, which provides unusual visibility, exposure, prestige and international status."
