Cabinet set to approve Merom Plan to strengthen Jerusalem

The Cabinet on Sunday was expected to approve the multi-year Merom Plan to economically strengthen the capital through investment in the city's tourism and bio-technology industries, an official statement by the Prime Minister's Office said.

The two-pronged plan involves investment of NIS 145.5 million in strengthen Jerusalem as a tourist attraction, and another investment of NIS 71.4 mission in improving the city as a center of research, development and bio technology.

Additional funds to develop the city will be invested in the plan, whose budget will stand at nearly NIS 290 million for the period of 2011-2016.

The Tourism Ministry will also invest in Jerusalem, allocating NIS 75 million to boost hotel construction in the city.
