China's official media offered the country's first reaction to the resignation of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak on Saturday, Reuters reported.

"It is hoped that the Egyptian military, government and its people will make every effort to maintain social stability and restore normal order," the official Chinese newspaper said, according to the report.

"Any political changes will be meaningless if the country falls prey to chaos in the end," it added.
