The city of Bat Yam is launching a discount card for residents, with savings at local businesses and cultural venues, it was announced Monday. However, the city is offering the card only to residents who sign a social-environmental pledge to protect the city.

The ten-point pledge calls for building the community, keeping streets and beaches clean, recycling, walking or biking instead of driving, conserving water and energy, and more. Businesses that sign the pledge will receive a certificate to hang in their window. The new initiative, the first of its kind in Israel, is being launched as part of a biannual urban architects’ event to be held in September.
