Egypt's prime minsiter quits, new gov't soon-army

CAIRO - Egypt's military rulers have accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq and appointed a former transport minister, Essam Sharaf, to form a new government, the army said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement was carried on the military's Facebook page and then confirmed to Reuters by a military spokesman.
