Embattled Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi called on tribes from throughout Libya to march to Tripoli in order to save the capital from rebel fighters besieging the city, Al-Jazeera reported overnight Sunday.

In an audio message from Gaddafi broadcast on Libya state television, he called on the tribes "to defend and purify Tripoli...or become slaves of the imperialists."
