Gal-On slams Yishai's 'xenophobia,' urges migrants' entry

Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On slammed Interior Minister Eli Yishai on Wednesday, for his "obsessive xenophobia" in connection with the African migrants who have been stuck on the Egypt-Israel border for six days.

Gal-On said that Yishai's hate of foreigners, was blinding his judgement and leading to violations of international law, "which requires the provision of refuge to asylum seekers persecuted in their countries."

"We have already got used to Yishai's moral apathy," said Gal-On. "But starving, ignoring and abandoning asylum seekers at the border is outrageous, both legally and morally."

In light of recent developments, Gal-On sent an urgent appeal Wednesday to Defense Minister Ehud Barak, calling on him to immediately order the entry of the group of 20 Eritrean migrants int Israel in order to enable a proper investigation into their status.
