Germany: Syrian citizen arrested for al-Qaida recruiting

A 24-year-old Syrian citizen accused of recruiting members for al-Qaida has been arrested in the southwestern town of Montabaur, Germany on Sunday.

Federal prosecutors say the suspect, identified as Hussam S., has been accused of recruiting supporters since September 2007 by allegedly uploading 100 postings of propaganda material on Internet forums.

Hussam is also accused of creating and administrating a German-language Internet forum in February 2009 which published video, audio and text messages trying to recruit supporters of jihad.
