Germany summons Egyptian ambassador

BERLIN  — Germany called in Egypt's ambassador to protest the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators and attacks on foreigners and reporters.

Germany's Foreign Ministry said Friday it had summoned Ambassador Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy to make clear that the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators "is not acceptable."

Germany also insisted the Egyptian government must protect foreigners and journalists.
