Minister of Welfare and Social Services Isaac Herzog called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz to make every effort to prevent Sunday’s local authorities workers strike.

“There is a culture that exists in Israel that ignores the threat of a strike right up until the end, this is a mistake,” said Herzog in a statement. “I know that the local authorities cannot afford to pay their share of the social services and this is a complex problem that effects not only the poorer population but also middle class communities.”

He added: “The budget that passed last week allows the government to respond to the distress call of local government. Therefore, the Prime Minister and Finance Minister must come to their senses quickly and find a solution to avert this crisis.”
