Housekeeper admits to false sexual harassment claims against Jerusalem police chief

A housekeeper who accused former Jerusalem Police Chief Yossi Pariente of sexually harassment has admitted to making the entire story up and that she never had a romantic relationship with him, Army Radio reported Sunday morning.

The revelation comes following the resignation of Pariente late last month, which he said was due to “personal considerations”, though no other explanation was given.

Pariente, who had been considered a contender for the position of Chief of Police after Yochanan Danino, was the fourth top commander to retire this year under controversy, including his predecessor in Jerusalem Niso Shaham, Central District Commander Bruno Stein, and LAHAV 433 Commander Menashe Arbiv.

The housekeeper who originally made the allegations against Pariente had three years earlier complained to the Justice Ministry department for investigating police, but after examining her claims, they concluded that they were baseless. Nonetheless, she continued to speak about the alleged affair, and contact journalists in an attempt to air her story further.

Over the weekend, according to Army Radio, she contacted people in the Israel Police and the Public Security Ministry and admitted that the entire story was false.
