Hundreds of pilgrims set off for Saudi Arabia from Gaza on Thursday, for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

According to Palestinian news agency Ma'an, the number of pilgrims stood at 720, and this year's are the first in several years hoping to have a smooth journey to their destination, "with preceding years rocked by internal and international controversies over visas and control of the lottery process which governs the permit hand-out system for the Hajj."
