IFCJ begins monthly seniors aid operation

Some 3,000 senior citizens have started receiving monthly aid from the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews including food, medicine, medical equipment and visits from volunteers.

As part of the initiative, which begun in 10 towns, the seniors received NIS 300 food vouchers, distributed door to door by some 500 of the fellowship’s volunteers.

Some 35,000 seniors in 50 communities will receive aid totaling $100 million per year over the next three years.

“For many years the elderly population is experiencing neglect and disregard, and 200,000 seniors in Israel live in poverty,” Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, president of the fellowship, said.

“The goal today is to begin making a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of elderly people who are in the worst situations,” he said.
