Hundreds of Labor Party central committee members received anonymous messages over the weekend calling upon them to take action to "get rid of [Labor leader] Shelly Yacimovich and [Secretary-General] Hilik Bar.

The message called upon the activists to insist on secret-ballot voting at a Labor convention set for Friday in Tel Aviv. No one claimed credit for the message, which a source close to Yacimovich called "an unfortunate reminder of the thriving democracy in the party."

Yacimovich intends to ask the central committee to approve a November 21 date for the next Labor race at the convention. MK Isaac Herzog, who is expected to challenge Yacimovich for the party leadership, said he and MKs Eitan Cabel and Erel Margalit would propose an alternative timetable that would enable a membership drive ahead of the race.
