Social-movement protest leader Daphni Leef met on Sunday with Interior Minister Eli Yishai, who agreed with Leef that the government should draft a new budget for 2012, amending the two-year budget that was approved in June 2010.

Leef met with Yishai as the government met to decide on whether to vote to approve the Trajtenberg Committee's socioeconomic-change report. The interior minister said earlier Sunday that his party would never support the Trajtenberg report unless significant changes were made that reflected the desires of the lower strata of society.

According to a statement sent out by Roee Neuman, the social-movement leadership's representative, Leef and Yishai agreed on two basic principals: the Trajtenberg report cannot create meaningful change and is not a solution to the real economic problems that have been created in Israel, and that the only way to bring change is a "new social budget for 2012.

Leef said she welcomed "any representative who wants a new budget for 2012."
