The haredi community will not obey any court decisions which stand in opposition to halacha, said MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) on Wednesday.

Gafni's comments came during a Knesset discussion of the High Court's Tuesday decision to jail haredi parents who refused to send their daughters to the Beit Ya'acov school in Emmanuel for what they say are religious reasons.

He added that "pictures of haredim going to jail makes one think of Jews with beards and sidecurls being put in jail in other countries in the past."

President Shimon Peres is scheduled to meet with Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush on Thursday to further discuss the matter.
