Magnitude 6.1 earthquake hits near Japan's Honshu

LONDON - A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck 120 miles (194 km) southeast of Mito off Japan's main Honshu island at 1931 GMT on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey reported.

The quake was very shallow, at a depth of 6.2 miles, the USGS said.
