A senior police official said on Monday that suspected Maoist rebels have killed at least 10 security forces during an attack on their camp in eastern India.

Bhupinder Singh said that the rebels detonated several land mines and set fire to the camp in Shilda village in the West Midnapore district of West Bengal state late Monday evening. Few other details were immediately available from the remote area.

Kishenji, a top Maoist leader in the area, claimed responsibility for the attacks in a call to a local television station. He said it was in retaliation for a recent security crackdown against the rebels.
