MOSCOW – Hamas leader in Damascus Khaled Mashaal says he sees "no prospects" for a Mideast peace agreement.

Speaking in Moscow on Monday evening following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Mashaal said that Israeli leaders bring "war and occupation" to the region, thus obstructing peace talks on the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese tracks.

Mashaal's statement leaves in doubt Moscow's desire to host a Middle East peace conference which would involve Hamas, despite strong opposition from Israel and the US.
