Netanyahu appoints former settler leader Dani Dayan to be Israeli envoy to Brazil

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Dani Dayan to be Israel's next ambassador to Brazil on Wednesday.
Dayan formerly served as the chief of the settler umbrella group, the Yesha Council.
Upon making the appointment, Netanyahu said, "Latin America is one of Israel's central targets in our efforts to develop new markets that will contribute to our economic growth." He expressed confidence that Dayan would succeed in strengthening relations with the South American country.
Dayan said upon accepting the appointment, "I have answered the challenge that the prime minister has given me to deepen and improve relations between Israel and Brazil." He jested that, despite his appointment, he hadn't promised to bring Israel a gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.
