US President Barack Obama extended US sanctions on Syria by a year, a communiqué to Congress detailed on Tuesday.

In the message, Obama expressed that Syria continues to support terrorist regimes and tries to obtain weapons of mass destruction.

Obama added that Syria is a threat to US security, as well as the security of its surrounding countries and their economies.

He added that the Syrian police did make some progress in cracking down on foreign soldiers who infiltrate Syria to get to Iraq.
