WASHINGTON — US President Barack Obama has reassured Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that the US wants calm and an end to the violence in Tunisia and for that country's interim government to uphold human rights and hold free and fair elections.

A populist uprising recently ousted Tunisian President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali after 23 years in power.
