Patient’s violent behavior to nurse triggers sanctions at Tzrifin hospital

A nurse at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Tzrifin was lightly injured on Tuesday night when a 60-year-old patient scratched her chest and hit her hand. The patient and her husband went wild, cursed and threatened the medical staff until hospital security personnel and the police arrived. The nurse filed a complaint with the police.

In protest, the hospital nurses’ committee decided to hold workers’ assemblies and apply sanctions on Thursday between 10 a.m. and noon.

The “reason” given by the patient for attacking the nurses was her answer to her question on how long she would have to wait for treatment. The patient and her husband were treated at the same hospital despite their violent behavior.

The hospital said on Wednesday that it has demanded that a uniformed policeman be put on duty at the hospital, especially in the emergency room, since the doctors, nurses and other staffers have to cope with verbal and physical violence “almost daily.”
