Peres undergoes successful hernia repair surgery

President Shimon Peres successfully underwent hernia repair surgery at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer on Friday, after he was diagnosed during his state visit to Canada this week.

The 89-year-old Peres awoke from anesthesia feeling well, Army Radio reported.

Professor Rafi Walden, the president's personal physician, made the announcement early Friday evening after Peres's office reported his condition.
