Education Minister Shai Piron met on Tuesday with the Holocaust survivor who was attacked by a father in Holon last week after he had asked his children to stop vandalizing benches in the municipal park.

During the meeting with the 79 year old, Pavel Gertman, Piron strongly condemned violence against the elderly and called the incident “unacceptable”.

Piron explained he has instructed the ministry to initiate a discussion on the subject in order to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the national student council who have just returned from their Holocaust education trip to Poland.

“I can not grasp and understand, how a man can put his hand on another person to maliciously hurt him,” chairwoman of the Youth and Community committee of the council said.
