Police Insp.-Gen. David Cohen called on public and religious leaders Sunday to take responsibility for influencing the public to show restraint in the struggle to stop the evacuation of Beit Yehonatan, the seven-story building constructed illegally by Jews in east Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood.

"Israel Police will not allow the population, public order or the police themselves to be harmed and will legally take control of the situation if necessary," Cohen said.
