In an attempt to establish a new line of communication with the Taliban, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has arrived in Qatar, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday.

Karzai plans to hold talks with Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to discuss opening an office in Qatar for the Taliban.

"The important thing about this visit is that President Karzai is traveling at the invitation of the emir of Qatar...they will talk about the possibility of a Taliban office in Qatar to have direct negotiations," Janan Mosazai (spokesman for the Afghan foreign minsitry) was quoted as saying by the Wall Street Journal.
