Egypt is seriously considering opening a consulate in the Gaza Strip, Hamas Foreign Minister in Gaza Mohammed Awad said on Sunday, according to Palestinian news agency Ma'an.

According to Awad, the move would not be connected to the opening of the Rafah border crossing but rather in order to facilitate communication between Egypt and officials in Gaza, according to the report.
