Egyptian police seized one ton of explosives stored in the trunk of a car that were destined for smugglers in the Sinai on Saturday, police told Palestinian news agency Ma'an.

The explosives were destined for the destruction of "rocky mountains" to facilitate smuggling through tunnels into the Gaza Strip, the police said.

The police detained the driver, Ma'an reported.
