Hamas opposes Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salaam Fayyad heading a Palestinian unity government, Israel Radio quoted a western diplomat as telling Palestinian newspaper Al-Ayam on Sunday.

According to the report, Hamas sees Fayyad as one of the main factors behind the tension between Fatah and Hamas.

Hamas would consider allowing Fayyad to be finance minister of the unity government, the report added.
