Report: Jewish US congressman Cantor to step down as Republican leader in July

WASHINGTON - US congressman Eric Cantor will step down as House of Representatives Republican leader effective July 31 following his defeat in a primary on Tuesday, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing three Republicans familiar with his plans.

Cantor, a seven-term congressman from Virginia, was soundly defeated in the Republican primary by an upstart candidate from the Tea Party movement.
