Economic and supply issues have forced US fast-food conglomerate Kentucky Fried Chicken to shut down its last remaining franchise in Syria, AFP cited shopkeepers in Damascus as saying.

The last of seven KFC branches in Syria was located in the upscale Damascus neighborhood of Abu Rummaneh.

Kuwaiti businessman Nasser Khurafi brought KFC to Syria in 2006 as the first American chain to be set up in the country.
