Palestinian Authority Finance Minister Nabil Qassis submitted his resignation to PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Saturday, the Bethlehem-based Ma'an News Agency reported, citing informed sources.

According to the report, PA President Mahmoud Abbas has refused to accept Qassis' resignation, saying he will meet with the finance minister on Sunday to discuss the matter.

Qassis decided to resign amid criticism he has faced for proposing a reduction in bonuses for public sector workers as part of the strategy to deal with the financial crisis facing the Palestinian Authority, according to Ma'an.
